Mastering Balance: Integrate Wellness into Your Entrepreneurial Hustle

Okay, you might be wondering why I’m calling you a "Pathfinder." Well, it’s because we're all in this crazy life maze together, navigating the twists and turns of wellness and entrepreneurship. Each step we take is about forging our own path and figuring out what works best for us. And considering I’ve recently started playing the Pathfinder TTRPG (table top role playing game) it seemed fitting. So, welcome to the tribe, fellow Pathfinder!
Now for the good stuff! Something I’ve been trying to get a handle on is balancing wellness and entrepreneurship. It can feel like walking a tightrope over a pit of fire. It’s not like I’m going into an office or anything. I’m now at home indefinitely.
But even with these changes and as someone living with a health condition (diabetes by the way) the allure to let it all go is a constant.

This week, I’ve been thinking through some areas to help me find that elusive balance. Whether you're a seasoned entrepreneur or just dipping your toes in, maybe these insights will help you prioritize your well-being while still smashing your professional goals.

Mindful Mornings
Mornings can be a beast, but starting your day with intention can set a positive tone for everything that follows. I’ve noticed that how I start my day impacts what I get done for the day. I do my best to incorporate a few minutes of mindfulness into my morning routine. Whether it's meditation, journaling, or simply enjoying the process of getting ready for the day, these moments of calm help me approach my day with clarity and focus. The biggest thing that’s helped is keeping a junk journal or notepad so I can write down every little random thought, task, or idea that comes to this ADHD brain.
Trust me, it’s a game-changer.
It allows me to empty my mind and enjoy the flow of my morning before I gotta get down to business.
Scheduled Breaks
I know, I know, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and forget to take breaks. I am still not doing so great in this area. But seriously, regular short breaks can significantly boost your productivity and well-being. Set a timer to remind yourself to step away from your work every hour, even if it’s just for a five-minute stretch or a quick walk around the block. I try to switch between sitting and standing at my desk. Sometimes that small shift is enough for me to realize I need to step away for a second.
Time block your breaks on your calendar if you have to. Your brain will thank you.
Physical Wellness
You don’t need a fancy gym membership to stay active. Incorporate simple exercises and stretches into your daily routine. Desk stretches, yoga, or even a quick dance session can help keep your body energized and reduce the risk of burnout. Not too long ago I got a treadmill that fits under my desk. I know it’s all the WFH rage since the panini, but it’s still a valuable investment. I’m having to train myself to not be so attached to my Apple watch picking up my movement. If I’m walking and typing (proud to say I can do so at 2 mph) it can’t pick up the natural arm swinging motion that signifies “I’m walkin here!”
Also walking on them with house shoes is a definite no no. My I felt things in my shins that I don’t think any one should ever have to. In socks or in actual tennis shoes is the way to go.

Mental Health Check-ins
Let’s be real, entrepreneurship is stressful, so it’s crucial to regularly check in on my mental health. On top of the non stop ideas that I have, I’m constantly trying to monitor my anxiety, depression, and recently in the past 2 years ADHD. Medication has definitely helped, but I’ve found I get the most out of it when I consistently doing things to allow myself a moment. Sometimes it’s a silly text to my husband. I might sit on the floor and have a mini cuddle session with my dogs. It can even be as simple as grabbing a cup of tea. A lot of times these moments easily fold into my scheduled breaks.
Practice techniques like deep breathing, mindfulness, or even talking to a therapist (every 2 weeks on Fridays for me). Remember, it’s okay to ask for help and take time for self-care. Self care is a RIGHT not a reward.
You got this!
Conscious Eating
Fueling your body with nutritious foods can make a world of difference in your energy levels and overall well-being. And yes I know that’s what everyone says. However what I will add is fuel your body how YOU need to. Now to be clear that’s not a free pass to go ball out at taco bell because the Baja Blast is like red bull on vacation. What I do mean is get to know what your body needs and provide that. Think about your cravings. Our body sends us signs all the time when it needs something. Tune in and learn what you need to fuel you best.
And hey you don’t need to have the biggest gourmet style meals. For me I have to eat a lot of small meals through out the day or I won’t eat at all (still working on this 😅). So no pressure to try to change everything all at once. Sometimes it can be as simple as 1 small shift. If I drink water in the morning, I'm more likely to continue hydrating through out the day. That kicks off my mindful morning. See what I did there?
Even though these are the areas I’m focusing on, I hope these help you find a better balance in your life too. I’d love to hear your thoughts and any strategies that have worked for you. Let’s keep the conversation going!
And hey, if all else fails, there's always coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. Take care and catch you later!
